What we do
Parenting Support Team. This team delivers Strengthening Families Strengthening Communities Parenting Education Programme and offers 1:1 support (this includes support for Somali parents). We can deliver workshops to support parents on family and community issues.
Over a number of years, we have developed workshops based on parents concerns and deliver these to groups of parents who would like to come together and support each other.
Strengthening Families Strengthening Communities Parenting Programme
SFSC provides an opportunity for parents to explore parenting issues in a supportive setting. The programme provides a chance to get information on the development of children and to look at how our own experience of being children has influenced our parenting methods. There are many opportunities for an in-depth exploration of parenting skills, with attention paid to how children can be helped to develop self-discipline and self-esteem. You can find some tools and resources here.

Training for Practitioners
Good Practice in Signposting and Information – Signposting Services can be very empowering for parents and enable them to gain the support that they need to have happy healthy family lives. Done well Signposting can improve parent’s access to support and community resources, done badly Signposting can send parents around in circles and dissuade them from seeking help in the future. We have to be very careful not to be offering what could be perceived as ‘advice’ unless of course, we have advice qualifications. Good Practice in Signposting and Information looks at the skills set needed to provide a Signposting and
Information Service and enables workers to provide a quality service using minimal resources.
Parent Abuse Workshops - A workshop aimed at professionals to improve understanding of domestic violence and abuse perpetrated against parents (and siblings) by their children. The workshop aims to support practitioners understanding of the dynamics of parent abuse and its impact on parents, siblings and the children/young people who are potentially perpetrators and victims. It also supports identifying parent abuse and understanding how to respond to a disclosure and to be aware of the support needs of parents and children and the current local and national support services available.
Wellbeing Workshops – Aimed at Practitioners supporting families to deal with some difficult, complex and serious issues. Why do we do what we do? How does it impact on us professionally and personally? It is really important for the parents we support, the practitioners that do the work and for the organisations that we work for that we work efficiently and effectively and that we are aware of how our work affects us. Burn out affects us, the families we work with, our own families and the organisations we work for that cannot afford staff cover in times of austerity.
