Photo Gallery - Women's Day
|
Women from the area flocked to the Barton Hill Settlement on this fine Saturday morning to celebrate this special day together. On offer were a variety of activities and workshops running throughout the day.
The theme this year was health and wellbeing, and this was reflected in the choice of activities which ranged from Relaxation, Meditation, Crystal Healing, Thai foot massage, Indian Head massage, Makeovers, Nail art, and Silk scarf painting to name but a few!

Following the registration, our invited guest MP Kerry McCarthy was honoured to present the “Women Who Made a Difference Awards” to those women nominated by the community for their numerous and varied voluntary contributions.
The event was very well attended by all ages and reflected well the mix and wealth of cultures we have in our community. There was something for everyone, and the workshops were soon booked up. There was an opportunity for the women to chat to old and new friends alike, rekindle acquaintances, look at the displays and test their knowledge of chocolate with a fun quiz!
Everyone then gathered together again at lunch time and enjoyed a sumptuous lunch with good company and great atmosphere. The music playing in the background was a mixture of Salsa, Calypso and African, which was setting the mood for the finale!!

We were very lucky to have Rachel Degarang with her drummers from the Tribe of Doris, who joined us to give an exhibition of dance to close the event. During the day some women had attended an African Dance workshop and inspired by the beautiful dancing from Rachel, they then joined in for a fantastic display of dance!
It was a wonderful day for those who attended and every one had a special moment of their own to remember from the day. It was generally felt that this year’s event was the best ever. Thanks must be given to the group of local women who had spent the previous few weeks planning the event; it seems they had got the recipe for an extra special day just right!!!!
