Photo Gallery - Women's Day

March 5th, 2005.

International Women's Day, 2005.

This year’s event was another huge success with around 140 local women of all ages and cultures enjoying the day with the theme of ‘Celebrating Diversity’. The event was organised by the Settlement’s Community Work Team, in partnership with Community at Heart.

The event was opened by Asha Craig. She is a former chair of the Black Development Agency and the Bristol Regeneration Partnership. Asha voiced that she was pleased to be back at the Settlement after an absence due to work commitments. Asha presented 30 local women with "Women Who Make a Difference" awards. The awards recognise women who give their time voluntarily to a number of causes across the New Deal for Communities area.

There were a number of workshops in the morning and afternoon along with complimentary therapies with a lunch at midday. The event also hosted the powerful exhibition of ’50 Films for 50 Females’, a photographic display of young refugee women. The event was rounded off with a display of various cultural dances mostly performed by the young women from the City Academy.  Things that women said about the day appear under the pictures (in no particular order).
