Community Jam is a musical triumph!

The “Community Jam”, held on 21st May at Barton Hill Tenants’ Association, was a brilliant success! About 80 people turned up and there were plenty of people who plucked up the courage to perform. We had everything from violinists to rappers to trumpeters to DJs, and there were some great singers too. The audience was fantastic and everyone got a loud cheer when they’d finished. Nobody realised just how many talented musicians there are in the area.

The Community Jam was a partnership between Time for Action (Barton Hill Settlement’s time bank project) and the Arts Project at Community at Heart. It was successful in publicising both of the projects, in getting new time bank members and in getting some musicians together for the new community band and choir. The food went down well and the atmosphere was great, with tea lights in jam jars hand painted by local people decorating the tables. In fact, it was so successful that people are already asking when the next one’s going to be – so watch this space for Community Jam 2!
