Her husband, Yaya, comes from the Gambia, and in 2003 friends and family members took part in a sponsored walk to raise funds for the educational needs of children in Tendaba, the village where Yaya was born.

They raised £700, of which some was sent to the village, where it was spent on the structure of the school building, a toilet block, and other physical improvements.  Lucy and Yaya visited Tendaba in January 2005 to deliver gifts to the children, including school bags and sports equipment.

Lucy and Yaya wanted to take this opportunity to thank all those in and around the Settlement who donated money to the project.  Your generosity has made a real difference to the children of Tendaba.
