Settlement History Barton Hill Settlement was established in 1911.  At that time, many similar settlements were being set up around the UK, with the aim of bringing cultural and educational opportunities to disadvantaged areas.

In Barton Hill, the Settlement was established by the University of Bristol - staff and students lived here, setting up, amongst other things, a library. At the time, it was called the "University Settlement".

The Settlement, as an independent charity, no longer has formal connection to the University.

What does the Settlement do now? We provide a wide range of services, including childcare, services for young people and over 50s, education and courses, advice and guidance, community computing, and a variety of social events.

We have a pleasant and peaceful garden, and several rooms for hire (for meetings, parties, etc.)
