The Family Playcentre  Playcentre logo


The Family Playcentre is a core project of Barton Hill Settlement which works successfully with a large number of families in Barton Hill and the surrounding areas.  We are an integral part of the Barton Hill Children’s Centre partnership which links:

  • Barton Hill Primary School and Children’s Centre,

  • The Wellspring Healthy Living Centre,

  • Barnardo's

Playcentre Activities

Pre-School

The Pre-School provides 2.5 hours of Early Education through Play, and is registered for 24 children aged between 2yrs 6months and 5 yrs. 

Every morning, 9.15am – 11.45am.

Senco  - Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator

Rebecca Thomas, the Family Playcentre's SENCO practitioner, aims to create an inclusive environment where all the children can learn and play, working closely with parents/carers and external agencies. 

This helps to identify early the children who need additional help, and to arrange for additional support as required.

 

One World Day

For families with children, expanding language skills in a fun way, including "Speak Group", singing and talking.

Tuesday, 9:30 - 12, then lunch 12-1.

Women-only crèche, 1-3 pm.

Reaching Out Groups

A number of small groups in the local community will be developed as soon as funding permits.  One group meets in the Community Room of Barton House, and is for the residents of the blocks in Barton Hill.

Wednesday, 9:30-11:45.

Crèche

Sessional childcare enabling parents to attend courses, meetings, parents groups or volunteering opportunities over the whole of Barton Hill Settlement. 

Monday and Thursday, 9:45am - 11:45am

Family Tree Day

A drop-in play session for the whole family, children with grandparents or uncles or friends and extended family. Structured group playing and learning together with lunch.

Creative Day

Creative play activities, for families and children together.  Including lunch, 12-1.

Exciting activities in the holidays, including crèches, family days and trips.

Culture Day

Bringing together different families to learn about and experience each others’ cultures, traditions and customs.

Wednesday, 9:30 - 12:30 and 1-3 (with lunch 12-1).

Parents' Groups

Informal groups where discussions range from parenting, personal issues, politics to shopping.  These sessions are confidential and support and advice is available.

Wednesday and Thursday, 1- 3

Wellbeing Day

Growing food, cooking food, healthy eating and lifestyles, physical activities, dancing and movement. Including lunch 12noon—1.00pm

Friday, 9:30 - 2:30 (with lunch 12-1).
